Make Your Parade Experience the Best it Can Be

Posted by dschroer on November 9th, 2007

Make your 2007 Frisco Community Parade experience the best it can be.  Below are a list of guidelines that will make participating or viewing the event more enjoyable.

For Parade Spectators:

* Please see the separate posting on this Web site about street closures around the parade route then plan your parking needs accordingly.

* For your safety, please stand behind the rope lines along the parade route at all times. Parade participants riding on floats or in vehicles are not allowed to throw candy.  If parade participants have give aways, someone in their group will walk the parade route and hand the items to spectators.

* Tables and chairs (booths for merchandise, literature) are NOT allowed along parade route unless on private property and with permission from property owner.  Do not set up tables, chairs on city sidewalks or in right-of-way.

* Porta potties will be located at 4th and Main, near the ‘Old City Hall’ building.

For Parade Participants:

* Parade participants need to be at Pizza Hut Park at 9 a.m. for staging.  The parade gets underway at 11 a.m.

* Throwing candy from vehicles is NOT ALLOWED. You can use your own volunteers to walk alongside your entry and hand to onlookers

* Remember to print your number and bring with you to the parade.

* Porta potties will be located near staging site (Frisco Street and Main Street).  Additional portable facilities will be available at 4th and Main, near the ‘Old City Hall’ building. That said, the parade will not ‘stop’ or ‘wait’ for those using facilities and participants who leave their entry, will need to ‘catch up’ to their entry as necessary.

* Tables and chairs (booths for merchandise, literature) are NOT allowed along parade route unless on private property and with permission from property owner.  Do not set up tables, chairs on city sidewalks or in right-of-way

* There is NO special seating for viewing or ‘dignitaries’.  Viewing space is available ‘first come, first serve’.  Aside from marked handicapped spaces, the same rule applies to downtown parking.      * Prepackaged, non potentially hazardous foods such as bottled drinks or bagged chips may be sold from private property without a permit; otherwise, food and drink sales are subject to city health code rules and may require a permit.

* The parade route ends at North County and Main.  From there, you will need to go north (turn left) on North County and continue north to CR 712 to exit the route and make your way back to your vehicles at PHP.

* As of Friday, November 9, NO more registrations are being accepted at this time.  We appreciate your interest and will see you next year!

Continuing the Tradition in 2007

Mayor Mike SimpsonThe Frisco Community Parade is back again for 2007 and promises to be the biggest and best ever. Continuing in the tradition of “Keeping the Small Town Feel” that our citizens want in Frisco, we have included all four high schools in this year’s parade as well as many of our middle schools.

Long time Frisco residents remember the annual homecoming parade as one of the big events of a small but fast growing town, where thousands of Frisco residents and families lined Main Street to honor the schools, football teams, bands and community organizations that participated. It has been a tradition that grew each year and one that all of us on the Parade Committee wanted to make sure continued. This year the theme again will be a “Salute to the Troops” in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Press release from the City of Frisco’s News and Information service:

Frisco loves a parade in the fall and the annual Community Parade is a chance for families to come out and celebrate Veterans Day weekend, listen to all four high school marching bands and wave at the local football heroes.

The Veterans Day event honors our military and also gives each school a chance for student organizations to be highlighted. This year’s event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Main Street on Saturday, November 10, according to Mayor Mike Simpson and Buddy Minett, president of the Frisco Independent School District Board of Trustees. Both men are serving on the
parade committee this year.
